In 1901, the first Royal Enfield motorcycle was produced. The Royal Enfield Bullet, manufactured by the Enfield Cycle Company, is the most enduring motorcycle design in history. Velocette purchased Royal Enfield’s spare parts business in 1967, and the two companies profited from the deal for three years until Velocette closed in early 1971.
The pair were awarded a contract to provide the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield, Middlesex, with precision parts. They brand their project Enfield Manufacturing Company Ltd. in honor of this esteemed order, and they call their first bicycle, created by Bob Walker Smith, the Enfield. The next year, they rebranded their bicycles as Royal Enfields and debuted the “Made Like A Gun” trademark.
