About 8,000 employees work directly for the BMW Group in the UK, and an additional 14,000 are employed by the 147 Retailer network that carries the BMW and MINI brands. Since 2000, the business has made close to £2 billion in investments in its UK operations. The UK is the fourth-largest global sales market for the BMW Group.
The UK operations of BMW Group have experienced notable expansion. The center of MINI production, MINI Plant Oxford, started building MINIs in 2001 and has since produced more than three million of them. In 2001, BMW Plant Hams Hall began manufacturing 4-cylinder gasoline engines. While MINI Plant Swindon has been the primary supplier of MINI body panels since 2005, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited started manufacturing vehicles at its Goodwood plant in 2003.
