Michigan’s Wayne County is home to the city of Dearborn Heights. The 2010 census found 57,774 people living there.
The two irregular portions of Dearborn Township and a quarter-mile connecting strip of land from the village of Inkster were combined to form Dearborn Heights. On Friday, March 4, 1960, incorporation petitions were filed, and on Monday, March 7, 1960, Inkster officials delivered their papers for incorporation. At an election on June 20, 1960, the formal date of organization, the residents of Dearborn Heights approved the incorporation. A lawsuit was launched by the mostly black community of Inkster, which claimed that Dearborn Heights’ layout was a racial gerrymander.
