In 1963, Birte and Karl Toosbuy established ECCO. Karl Toosbuy, who was trained as a shoemaker, always wanted to own and operate his shoe factory. Consequently, the family decided to sell their house, give up the security of regular employment, and relocate to Bredebro, a town in southwest Denmark that is close to the German border.
